Freight

As a freight services supplier, Sucden is highly responsive to the changing dynamics of the marketplace. Our extensive geographic experience of soft commodities trading coupled with our proven logistics expertise enables us to react positively in providing clients with freight services that can add real value to business opportunities.

Worldwide logistics

Being a global trader, we apply logistical expertise to increase our operational flexibility and more effectively capture marketplace opportunities. Our worldwide exposure to dry bulk cargo transportation gives us an excellent read of trends and risks in the freight environment.

Such capability allows us to manage a world class service for transportation of our own and our clients’ commodities. It also empowers us to provide a competitively priced management service to clients including other traders, operators, charterers and owners.

Our shipping team prides itself on providing a same-day service for freight rate from and to anywhere in the world. Most of our cargoes are transported in panamax, ultramax, supramax and handymax bulk carriers. Where appropriate, we can also combine inland barges, trucks and trains to provide a complete end-to-end capability.

At any given time, Sucden will normally be managing at least 25 vessels around the world. We also charter approximately 50,000 containers per annum.

Dry bulk transportation

Sucden is one of the largest transporters of dry bulk soft commodities worldwide. Our expertise includes, but is not exclusive to bulk raw sugar, bagged raw and white sugar, coffee, cocoa, fertilizer, grains, concentrate, minerals, steel products, coal and coke.

Our own fleet

Sucden moved into fleet ownership in 2016 and established a new subsidiary, Sucden Armateurs. We now have three handymax vessels, each with a capacity of 43,000 tons. We now boast of operating some of the most environmentally friendly bulk carrier types in the world. Our vessels have an EEDI (Energy Efficient Design Index) rating of 28.5 per cent and are compliant with IMO regulations until 2024. Equally, our vessels have the latest ballast water treatment systems, which make them one of the greenest bulk carrier designs ever to sail the oceans. In 2019 our vessels achieved the ISO 9001 Quality Management and ISO 14001 Environmental Management certifications.

In 2018, Sucden Armateurs became a member of the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN). Through this membership, Sucden participates in the collective forces of MACN worldwide to tackle corruption in the shipping industry and benefit from the workshops and the collective actions already in place

Value added partnerships

Operating our own fleet and transporting our own and our clients’ cargoes around the world gives us extraordinary insights into the dry bulk freight marketplace. As such, we have both the physical capabilities and the management expertise to engage with third parties in exploring commercial opportunities for freight-based investment projects and value added maritime logistics partnerships.
